GLOBAL VALUES
Sarah Parkin is right to flag the importance for lawyers to bring themselves up to the mark on factors relating to the implications of global climate change. The Environmental Law Foundation, established as a charity some 15 years ago with a cross-disciplinary membership (in which solicitors predominate), does precisely that. Apart from its practitioner-led advice and referral service providing active pro bono help to communities faced with environmental problems, it holds and participates in opportunities for sharing information and experience.
The foundation provides training in the practical application of the law and recently held a special event - shortly to be repeated - on the implications for society of the need to address all such issues, and the place of law and the legal process, in so doing.
The Law Society and its successive presidents have been very supportive of our work and I would urge those who are not members to join whether as lawyers, mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts or uncles.
