ON THE DEFENSIVE
With record high numbers of legal practice course (LPC) graduates not being able to find jobs, many students will ask whether it was worth it to have devoted four years to study and incurred debts into tens of thousands of pounds.
When I was studying A-level law, the tutor advised us on the possible ways of entering the profession. Having graduated with a 2:2 honours in law, the career path was virtually grinding to a halt. However, in sheer determination, I undertook the LPC in hope that I would obtain a training contract.
I am now a police station accredited representative with less than one year to go before qualification. Even with the uncertainty created by the Carter report, I am helping vulnerable people who need us to defend them everyday. I again ask the question: 'Is it worth it?' If you are in it for the money, then no, but if you are here to defend people, then of course it is.
