There is overwhelming public support for the regulation of will-writers, an opinion poll commissioned by the Law Society has found. Some 85% of the 1,014 adults quizzed by ICM said that everyone offering will-making services should be properly regulated, and the Society also published a 'dossier of despair', containing case studies, to illustrate the risks of using unregulated will writers. The move comes on the back of a call for regulation by the joint parliamentary committee that scrutinised the draft Legal Services Bill. A Department for Constitutional Affairs spokesman said a review last year found no evidence to support regulation, but added it would explore voluntary regulation. A decision on compulsory regulation would be left to the legal services board proposed by the Bill. The survey also found that only 41% of people had an up-to-date will, while a third did not intend ever making one.
