A London-based set of barristers' chambers has picked up a prestigious Queen's Award for Enterprise for its international commercial work - but law firms missed out this year.
20 Essex Street clinched the award after it dealt with cases such as Equitable Life and litigation involving film finance and cross-border land disputes. It also acted for high-profile companies and organisations such as football club Manchester United.
Head of chambers Iain Milligan QC said: 'This is an appropriate tribute to the tremendous work of the chambers and staff.'
Although no solicitors received a prize this year, previous law firm winners include City giants such as Herbert Smith, Richards Butler, Linklaters and Simmons & Simmons. Commercial firm Shadbolt & Co also won an international trade award in 2001 and said it is still benefiting from the kudos the award attracts. 'Without question it is a great help to our image and reputation,' senior partner Dick Shadbolt said.
The awards organisers are now looking for nominations for next year's prizes in both the business and individual categories; visit www.queensawards.org.uk.
