I note the recent ruling as to the extent of solicitors' responsi-bilities in regard to reporting money laundering.

It appears that we could have responsibility even for the most minor peccadillo on the part of our clients, and we could be swept up into investigations in cases where in all honesty we would have no reason even to suspect that there was anything wrong.

Is the answer to this that we ought to prepare a daily list of new files that we open and submit a copy of this list to the regulatory authority? If every solicitor were to do this, presumably the agency would have perhaps 100,000 matters reported to it each day, but at least we would have done our duty.
