A Midlands firm backed with £30m of private equity has acquired what it says is the first part of a new regional network. Adeptio Law Group, founded last year through Horizon Capital’s investment in founding firm FBC Manby Bowdler, has bought neighbouring practice Jordans Solicitors for an undisclosed sum.

Jordans has offices in Blackheath and Halesowen and employs around 30 people. Managing director Michael Jordan will become a partner in FBC Manby Bowdler. Jordans is continuing under its current name in the short term before adding the FBC Manby Bowdler branding as the firms integrate.

Neil Llord, chief executive of Adeptio Law Group and FBC Manby Bowdler, said the business wanted a network of regional firms which can remain rooted in the communities they serve.

‘[Jordans] has a long-standing reputation for quality and client service and this deal strengthens our presence across the wider Birmingham and Black Country region,’ said Lloyd. ‘We remain committed to our people-first, regional approach — preserving what makes each firm distinctive while giving them access to the resources, expertise and investment they need to thrive.’

Simon Hitchcock, managing partner of Horizon Capital, said the acquisition was a ‘strong statement of intent’. ‘We have taken time to make sure the foundations are in place to build something genuinely exciting in the legal sector with Adeptio and this acquisition is the first of a number of exciting deals in the pipeline,’ he added.

According to its most recently published accounts, Jordans Solicitors had 30 staff as of last March and was operating with net assets of £128,000.

Michael Jordan added: ‘My father founded Jordans in 1991 and over more than three decades we have built a firm that our clients and communities trust. Joining FBC Manby Bowdler, and becoming part of Adeptio Law Group, felt like the right move to secure that legacy and to give our team the platform and opportunities they deserve.’

FBC Manby Bowdler has grown annual revenues to more than £18m and has expanded its office network to include Birmingham’s Colmore Row district, as well as locations in Knowle, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury, Telford and Worcester.
