Those involved in restructuring the legal profession in developed countries need to consider the impact on the developing world, the former president of the Law Society of Zimbabwe warned delegates. Sternford Moyo said changes to self-regulation and independence in developed countries could be used by other governments to oppress the legal profession. Mr Moyo was in Scotland last week as the keynote speaker to a conference that strongly criticised the Scottish Executive's plans to retain a firm degree of control over the proposed Scottish legal complaints commission.
