A group of miners who recently failed in an application for a group litigation action, led by City firm Greene Wood & McLean (GWM), faced the prospect of losing their homes this week - as claims handler Vendside sought a charging order over the houses of 27 of them. GWM's attempt to obtain an order to sue six law firms, the Union of Democratic Miners and Vendside was dismissed as an 'abuse of the system' by a High Court judge last month. The judge ordered £300,000 costs to Vendside, with a further £300,000 to be distributed among the six law firms. Vendside is now pursuing those costs against 27 of the 64 miners. The issue of whether the failed litigation is covered by after-the-event insurance is currently under dispute. GWM did not respond to requests for comment.
