Misleading the public
Your editorial rightly says that 'solicitors' firms must shed arcane images and outmoded working practices to function in the modern world' (see [2001] Gazette, 5 July, 15).
How odd then that the same edition carries the front-page headline 'Irvine gives impetus to crime solicitors' wig hope'.
Practitioners who feel the need to dress up in funny clothes in the mistaken belief that it somehow compensates for a lack of ability or self-confidence should stick to Gilbert and Sullivan, instead of misleading the public into thinking that the professionals in this business suffer from the same shortcomings.
