Monitoring of training establishments: recruitment of monitors
The Law Society has recently reviewed the training contract system.
One of the improvements being made to the current scheme is the introduction of a more effective system for monitoring training establishments authorised to take trainee solicitors.
The new scheme will come into force on 1 July 2000, and the Society is currently recruiting a team of monitors who will start visiting firms this autumn.
In order to be a monitor you will need to be a qualified solicitor with experience of:X Working/dealing with trainee solicitors in practice;X Training, for example as a course tutor, training manager, etcetera; andX The present training scheme for trainee solicitors.It is also desirable to have experience of training supervisors.The Society is seeking to recruit monitors who can cover one of the following areas: London, South/South West and Manchester.You will be required to attend a compulsory training course prior to visiting firms and will be expected to undertake a minimum of 12 visits each year.
