More lenders join ENDs

On 1 September 2000, the following lenders joined the ENDs (Electronic Notification of Discharge) system:Alliance and Leicester plc;Associates Capital Corporation plc;Associates Mortgage Corporation ;Avco Trust Limited;Birmingham Midshires Mortgage; Asset No 6 Limited;Leamington Mortgage Corporation, and; Medens Limited.

On 1 October Prudential Banking plc will also join.

Under the ENDs system, the registrar accepts an electronic message from the lender in place of Form DS1 as evidence of the discharge of a charge.

The ENDs system is explained in Land Registry practice leaflet No 30.

Under the demterialisation procedure, no charge certificate is issued to the lender and an entry recording that fact is made on the charges register of the title.
