PRIVATE PRACTICEPartnersThere is a flurry of partnership activity in the north-west this week, led by the Manchester office of Mace & Jones bringing in the construction law team from local firm Kirk Jackson.
The capture of Ken Salmon, who will head up the construction unit, and Andrew Rimmer takes the firm's partnership to 33.Fellow Manchester firm George Davies also has a double recruitment: Alan Lewis from Bolton-based Keoghs, where he was head of employment, and private client lawyer Tony Hall from Gorna & Co.Moving to the employment team of Keoghs is former Blackpool-based sole practitioner Keith Cartmell, taking the firm's partnership to 25.Manchester firm Cottrill Stone Lawless has promoted commercial property specialist Ian Walsh as its sixth partner.Across the Pennines in Harrogate, Kirbys has scooped up employment specialist Jonathan Robertshaw as partner from Bradford firm Read Dunn Connell.Commercial litigator Nicholas Miller and family lawyer Iain Boyle have been promoted to partners at Hull firm Graham & Rosen.
They are joined by commercial expert Martin Wilson following a merger with another Hull firm - Wilson Oakes.
Graham & Rosen now has nine partners.Further north, Darlington-based Close Thornton has appointed head of commercial property David Hogg as partner.
He has been with the firm since 1967, starting with four years in the accounts department.Not a lot of movement in London this week, but Irwin Mitchell's capital office has recruited employment expert Bronwen Jenkins from Sprecher Grier Halberstam.Corporate tax partner David Hinds has left City firm SJ Berwin to join the London office of US firm Covington & Burling.City firm Vizards Wyeth has promoted liability lawyer Stephen Byass to partner.There are four promotions at City firm Trowers & Hamlins, taking the partnership count to 64.
Planning specialist Christopher Proudly and construction expert Andrew Vickery take the step up in the London office, while international lawyers Andrew Rae and Edward Rose are elevated in the Oman and Abu Dhabi offices respectively.In Suffolk, Jonathan Howe has joined Bury St Edmunds firm Gross & Co as partner, to head the trusts and estates department.
He leaves Bedford practice Sharman & Trethewy.The Bury St Edmunds office of Cunningham John has added corporate partner Clive Wadham-Smith from Willetts.Overseas, the banking team of Werner Michael Waldeck, Michael Eifler and Christian Fassbender has left Lovells Boesebeck Droste, the City firm's German practice, to join Frankfurt-based Haarmann Hemmelrath as partners.
PRIVATE PRACTICEAssociates/assistantsA high-profile coup for Clifford Chance in Paris - it has appointed Rmi Sermier, who was charg de mission with the general secretariat of the French government, and legal adviser to the prime minister.
He joins as an assistant in its public law group.Still in Europe, Allen & Overy's Hamburg office has taken on two senior associates.
Antitrust lawyer Ellen Braun joins from Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and corporate expert Thomas Lappe joins from Hannover tourist company Tui, where he was senior counsel.Back in London, Jonathan Groves has left his role as head of legal affairs at ITN to become a senior associate in the commercial department of Baker & McKenzie.There are additional promotions at City firm Vizards Wyeth (see earlier) with Charles O'Brien and Sophia Reed in the liability insurance group and private client lawyer Steven Ellis all becoming associates.Mayfair firm Gordon Dadds has promoted family lawyer Anna Wagstaff to associate.City firm Charles Russell has recruited company/commercial lawyer Justine Gunn as an assistant from Kingsley Napley.Corporate commercial lawyer Emma Bissett has left SJ Berwin to join the Oxford office of Barlow Lyde & Gilbert as a senior assistant.Also leaving London is Penny Samworth, who has left Knightsbridge firm Lee & Pembertons for the land estates team in Lodders' Stratford-upon-Avon office.Senior assistant Geoff Hart has joined the personal injury team of Coventry-based Ward & Rider from Blakemores in Birmingham.In Leicester, Gateley Wareing has recruited dispute resolution assistant Karen Millington from Roythorne & Co.
Nottingham firm Berryman Shacklock has taken on insurance lawyer Tessa Wilkins as an assistant.
She leaves the Solicitors Indemnity Fund.Fellow Nottingham firm Fraser Brown has brought in matrimonial solicitor Kim Mack from Roberts & Sale.Manchester firm Rowe Cohen has five new associates.
Simon Kay and John Oultram (both personal injury), Matthew Wiggetts (commercial), Stuart Sutton (family) and Alexandra Cameron (defendant insurance litigation) are all promoted.There is another appointment at Bolton firm Keoghs (see earlier) with the qualification of employment solicitor Fiona Holdsworth.
Kirbys in Harrogate also has an assistant to go alongside a new partner: property lawyer Anthony O'Reilly joins from Denison Till.
Halifax firm Thompson Garside has promoted Sajad Nazam, who specialises in civil litigation, personal injury and conveyancing, to assistant.
