There has been a series of big lateral hires in London.

Lovells has recruited Stephen Foster from CMS Cameron McKenna for its international business restructuring and insolvency practice.

Ian Rose, head of EC and competition law at Watson Farley & Williams, has moved to US firm McDermott, Will & Emery's London office.

Mishcon de Reya has launched an international trade group after recruiting partner Richard Nowinski from Richards Butler.

He will be working with Guy Dorman and Reina May, who joined from Dorman & Co as consultants.

David Fisher, an employment partner with Osborne Clarke, moves to Field Fisher Waterhouse, which now has 81 partners.

At Mayer Brown Rowe & Maw, Andrew Stanger - head of the employee share incentives group - has been promoted to partner.

Among the promotions to partner at US firm Dewey Ballantine is project finance lawyer Jane Da Vall in the London office.

Exeter-based Stones has hired Graham Simm to head the matrimonial team.

He joins from Goodhand & Forsyth in Surrey.

In Birmingham, corporate finance lawyer Tim Winn is back in practice after taking some time out following the collapse of Andersen Legal's Garretts.

He has joined Mills & Reeve as head of the office's company and commercial department.

Wendy Newbury has been promoted to commercial property partner at Blackburn-based Roscoes.

Newcastle firm Robert Muckle has taken Barney Frith from Beachcroft Wansbroughs to become a senior property partner.

In Paris, Eversheds has hired property and finance partner Kristine Karsten from the former Andersen Legal firm, SG Archibald.

Among the new partners at Guernsey firm Ozannes are solicitors Gavin Farrell (offshore funds) and Robert Shepherd (commercial litigation).

Associates/assistants

Ipswich is the recruitment hotspot this week.

Employment assistant Frances Barker has been recruited by Blocks from Gotelee & Goldsmith.

Barker Gotelee has recruited Tim Ridyard as an associate in its transport and advocacy team.

Mr Ridyard joins from the Ipswich office of Ashton Graham, where he was a partner and head of advocacy.

Prettys has three new corporate services assistants: Keith Vincent from Manchester firm Lockett Loveday McMahon, and newly qualifieds Andrew Tubb and Kelly Landles from Hewitson Becke & Shaw in Northampton and the Ipswich office of Bates Wells & Braithwaite respectively.

Also leaving Northampton is Roger James, who was head of employment at Poole & Co, who joins Cambridge-based Taylor Vinters as an assistant.

Clyde & Co's Guildford office has recruited three assistants: property lawyers Alexis Jones from Burges Salmon in Bristol, and Sally Jackson from City firm Allen & Overy, and employment specialist Hilary Griffin, who recently qualified at City firm Reynolds Porter Chamberlain.

Guildford firm Stevens & Bolton has recruited Richard Jordan - an assistant at City firm Lawrence Graham - to be an associate in its tax and trusts department.

Newbury firm Charles Lucas & Marshall has recruited Marie Verney to its wills department; she qualified recently with Gardner Leader.

Joining Gardner Leader's private client team, meanwhile, is Robert Jobson, an assistant from Wokingham-based Southorns.

The Birmingham office of Shoosmiths has recruited assistant Oliver Martin from City firm Masons.

Clinical negligence lawyer Rachelle Mahapatra has joined Irwin Mitchell's Leeds office as an associate, moving from Keeble Hawson.

Further north, Carlisle firm Burnetts has two new assistants: Amy Fallows (family) joins from Basingstoke's Brain Chase Coles, while James Stables (commercial) leaves his role as legal services manager at Eden District Council.

In Manchester, Rowe Cohen has launched a construction contract services unit by recruiting associate David Vayro from Hammond Suddards Edge.

Wendy Beer has joined Elliotts' commercial team after she completed her training contract.

Staying in Manchester, Turner Parkinson has promoted litigator Katrina Pilling to associate.

Joining Halliwell Landau as a senior banking solicitor is Rob Fawke from Addleshaw Booth & Co.

Joining Halliwell Landau's City office are property associates Greig Thewlis - formerly senior legal counsel at Holmes Place leisure company in London, and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer associate Andrew Henderson.

Baker & McKenzie has recruited Rahul Saxena, former assistant general counsel with London-based energy company Aquila Europe, to be an associate in its energy group.

Landwell assistant Andrew Osborne has joined Hammonds' employment and immigration team as a senior assistant.
