Two firms operating a model of expanding through office openings have each announced new bases at sites in Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

Switalskis said it will employ around 25 extra people over the next three years at what will be its 12th office, in the fishing port of Grimsby. The office will be home to solicitors working in commercial property, residential conveyancing, medical negligence and child care law. The Court of Protection team already has a presence in the region.

Switalskis said there is strong demand in the town for specialist legal expertise in complex and sensitive matters to be delivered in person. The firm will also now be able to offer legal aid-funded work in North East Lincolnshire, something that requires a firm to have a physical office in the area.

Both Ed Atkin, joint head of residential conveyancing, and Chris Gresswell-Green, a director in medical negligence, were born and raised in Grimsby and were instrumental in establishing the new site.

Atkin said: ‘Our Grimsby office opening is a natural step for us as we have existing clients in North East Lincolnshire. It reinforces our model of delivering local access backed by national expertise. We plan to create skilled jobs here and contribute positively to the area’s professional and economic life. I’m thrilled that we’re investing in the future of this town and the local region.’

Meanwhile, employee-owned Yorkshire firm Ison Harrison now has 25 offices in total after creating a new base in the Little Germany area of Bradford.

The firm already operates from nearby Bingley and Queensbury but this raises the profile in the area through a prominent city centre hub.

Partner Tim Burt, a specialist family law practitioner, said: ‘By increasing our visibility and accessibility in Bradford, we can further strengthen our support to individuals and families facing difficult legal situations and create a platform for the continued development of our commercial and private client teams.

‘This is an important step in our long-term investment in the district and reflects our confidence in the area.’ Burt will be joined by colleagues Parveen Ahmed, Kauser Farid, Munibah Qureshi, Jessica Hudson, Neha Kanda, Claire Loftus and Reena Chauhan.

The firm, which has doubled its annual revenue in three years to more than £35m, now employs around 450 staff.
