Musical chairs at MIDEM

The annual MIDEM event, where the international music industry gathers in Cannes, is set once again to take place with the sound of lawyers bickering in the background.

Last year, we reported London firm Collyer-Bristow's claim to be the first law firm to exhibit at MIDEM.

We were then deluged with outraged calls and faxes of historical convention brochures claiming that they were not.

However, this year, Collyer-Bristow is taking a stand once more and repeats the claim.

How could that be, we wondered? A PR bod assures us that the firm has checked with the organisers and while other solicitors attended MIDEM before 2002, none had actually taken a stand.

We all wait to be corrected before, presumably, going through the same palaver next year.

On the stand, the firm will be doing its best to promote unsigned artists it has taken on, and this year will be pushing JohannaKelly (pictured), a Canadian singer/songwriter duo.

Let's hope their music is better than their punctuation.
