Former Law Society President Edward Nally, who represents the Society on the IBA's council, was elected to the association's management board as one of the representatives of IBA members following a vote in Chicago. Meanwhile, Fernando Pombo, of Spanish firm Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, was elected unopposed as the next IBA president for a two-year term beginning in January. Colombian Fernando Pelaez-Pier and Japanese lawyer Akira Kawamura won contested votes to become vice-president and secretary-general, respectively.
