A glorious victory at a legal netball tournament run by Southampton University for regional firm Blake Lapthorn Linnell has been overshadowed by the shock revelation that the team which triumphed over several other law firms only had a couple of lawyers in it, Obiter is sad to report.

We received a press release about the team - neatly called Blake's Seven - and couldn't help but notice that just two of the players, solicitor Sarah Lucas (left) and legal executive Sharon Hewlett, were said actually to work at Blake Lapthorn Linnell.

Sniffing a scandal that would rock the south-coast legal netball world, we called the firm, and discovered that it was apparently perfectly fine to have non-lawyers in the team as it was sponsored by Blakes and carried its name, so there.

We guess Blake's Two and Five of Their Mates would probably not have sounded as good, and the firm has been good enough to sponsor all of their activities, providing new kit, bibs and balls, we're told.
