Networking groups stop support lawyers feeling 'left out'
Networking groups are the way forward to prevent the fast-growing number of professional support lawyers from feeling 'left out' in the City, the founder of the latest such group told the Gazette this week.
A new Financial Services and Banking Law Know-How Network has been set up by Herbert Smith support lawyer Martin Day.
Mr Day said the rate of growth of support lawyers within the City firms was exponential, explaining: 'Firms have woken up to the fact that they need professional support in the way that industry needs research and development.'
He said the aim of the group was to allow support lawyers in the sector 'to meet each other and discuss things of common interest'.
He added that networks - like one already established for corporate support lawyers by Linklaters, and the London Property Support Lawyers Group - help such lawyers from 'feeling left out'.
The property group has already made a major impact, working to create standard commercial property enquiries.
