No need to ask a friend

Nobody likes a smart-arse, but that adage seems to have passed Bird & Bird well by.

Or rather, that should be Bird & Bird, the self-styled 'cleverest law firm in the City'.

The firm triumphed for the second year running at a legal challenge quiz run by accountants Mazars, which included a celebrities team that featured Chris Tarrant.

You would have thought that Mr Tarrant would be the font of all knowledge trivial given his job fronting 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?', but the firm gleefully pointed out that it 'claimed the prestigious title by a significant margin'.

This is one of those things that is prestigious only because the people who have won it say it is, Obiter suspects, but it raised more than 14,000 for Marie Curie Cancer, so we won't be too churlish.

Pictured from left are Chris Tarrant, Sky News presenters Heather Scott and Michael Wilson, Bird & Bird bods Helen Parker, Michael Hanley and Andrew Hallgarth, Ingrid Tarrant, solicitor Joss Hargrave, and Sky News anchorwoman Kay Burley, who compred the event.
