Conveyancing instructions move on-line

The second edition of the Council of Mortgage Lenders' (CML) handbook for England and Wales will come into effect on 1 October 2002.

This is a set of standard instructions for solicitors acting on behalf of lenders and borrowers in residential conveyancing transactions.

The second edition contains amendments which incorporate the feedback received from lenders and solicitors during a review of the handbook.

The amendments were reported earlier this year (see [2002] Gazette, 25 April, 41).

The second edition is only available on the CML Web site at: (www.cml.org.uk/handbook).

Solicitors will need to have access to the Internet to view the instructions.

The Web site contains all CML members' individual part 2 instructions, effectively creating a one-stop shop for conveyancing instructions.

Solicitors instructed before 1 October 2002 should continue to use the current handbook until the transaction is complete.

This should be the case even where completion takes place after 1 October.

The second edition should only be used for new instructions on or after 1 October.
