I read with dismay the recent comment by Claire McKinney (see [2004] Gazette, 2 December, 14), which would be better placed in the tabloid press.


It is common sense that spurious claims should be dismissed and in practice this is what happens, anecdotal evidence and newspaper headlines apart.


Perhaps Ms McKinney does not accept the conclusion of the Better Regulation Task Force, which does not support the propaganda of a 'compensation culture'? What is not addressed in Ms McKinney's article is the obstructive and underhanded manner in which many claims are dealt with by insurers, causing unnecessary cost, delay and hardships to injured individuals - individuals without the power and resources of a multinational insurance company.
