The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has welcomed the endorsement of the European Competition Network's model leniency programme, which was introduced to enhance the detection and punishment of cross-border cartels. It was approved by the heads of the competition authorities of the 25 EU member states and the European Commission. The authorities will now align their respective programmes to minimum standards, making it easier for companies to report cross-border cartel conduct. There are currently 20 different leniency programmes in operation across the EU.
