A Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) case reported last week (see [2008] Gazette, 12 June, 29) sent a shiver down my spine. Forgive me, but no complaint was made and yet the SDT feels that the greater good is served by fining the partners of the firm in question £10,500 plus £25,000 costs. Have the powers that be nothing better to do? Or are they content to nail some soft targets?
I think we have found the SRA's equivalent of speed cameras. Might I suggest that we start a fund to help out our colleagues who seem to be paying over the odds? I'm happy to start the ball rolling with £25.
