Overhaul set to boost SCL
The Society for Computers and Law (SCL) has completed the radical shake-up of its structure ahead of a major membership push. The SCL last week held an extraordinary general meeting which saw its old executive replaced by a trustee board, comprising six members who will each have responsibility for a functional area of the SCL.
The council has been disbanded too.
John Yates, chief executive of niche technology law firm v-lex, is joint chairman of the board along with Nigel Miller, a partner at City firm Fox Williams.Mr Yates said the shake-up aimed to attract new blood to the society and boost local SCL groups.'Membership of the SCL has remained almost static over the last few years [at around 2,500],' he said.
'There has been a tremendous growth in the use of IT in law firms, and we want the strength of membership to reflect that.'Victoria MacCallum
