Paxo will stuff you with knowledge

Lawyers have a reputation, let's face it, for being smarty-pants, so why not go and prove it? The proviso is that you need to be able to face the steely gaze of a certain Jeremy Paxman.

The latest spin-off from University Challenge is a series pitting professionals against each other, and the makers are looking for a team of solicitors.

'Because universities aren't the only places where clever people are to be found,' they inform us (so don't expect a team of TV producers, on this basis).

After submitting an application form and photo (always solid evidence of intelligence), teams may be interviewed; the successful team then enjoys a day's filming at a venue which best reflects the work and tradition of the profession (you just know the makers are going to want wigs and inns of court), and then two days' studio recording at Granada TV in Manchester for the actual quiz.

Along with the application form, teams need to answer 30 questions of differing levels of ferocity, such as: 'Who or what was the winner, in 1950, of a Television Society award for outstanding artistic merit, having first appeared in a five-minute slot in 1946, and usually seen dancing on a piano in the company of Annette Mills?' So if you fancy gawping awkwardly at an irritated Paxo because of an itchy trigger finger while going 'erm, dunno' a lot, then call 0161 832 7211 ext 3157 or e-mail: university.challenge@granadamedia.com
