Pinsent Masons has become the latest major practice to announce a dip in the number of promotions to the partnership. The multinational firm today named 22 new partners worldwide, 12% fewer than last year.

The promotions, which take effect from 1 May, bring Pinsent Masons' total number of partners to 502. Of the new partners, 14 are in the UK.

Andrew Masraf, senior partner at Pinsent Masons, said: 'These promotions highlight the exceptional talent across our firm. They not only strengthen our partner team, but also reinforce the breadth of our capability and our strength in depth across all our key sectors.' Energy accounts for the largest number of promotions, with 10 new partners in the sector.

Last year Pinsent Masons promoted 25 to the partnership, up from 23 in 2022.

Several City firms have reported falling numbers of partnership promotions this year, led by Linklaters where the number was down by one third
