As legal aid firms face more and more financial strife, isn't it about time that the Law Society showed its support by reducing the fees charged for practicing certificates for those carrying out publicly funded work. A commercial lawyer in the City of London may only have to bill a few hours' work to pay for an annual certificate, whereas legal aid lawyers will work the best part of a week for theirs.

Never has the difference been so vast.
