You recently reported on a campaign against 'kick backs' that are being paid for road-traffic accident work (see [2006] Gazette, 4 May, 1). Something similar is happening within the world of conveyancing, and solicitors are being expected to pay for work from estate agents.
It was a sad day when the Law Society agreed that we could pay referral fees. What has happened to your reputation being enough to get work? I realise that market forces change, but why should the consumer and the solicitor have to pay?
