PRO BONO POINTS ; ;You recently carried an interesting feature on pro bono work (see [2000] Gazette, 9 November, 22). I am a housing solicitor employed by a legal aid firm. After several years experience, I would now like to make a contribution to the business community, of which I have no knowledge or experience. ;I would therefore like to offer my services to any commercial firms to give free advice sessions on perhaps shipping law or patent law. ;I am sure that this voluntary work will be personally rewarding but I would also like my employers to get a lot of free publicity as a result of my involvement. If business and other paying clients deserve and expect high-quality advice and assistance, why are poor people who need advice about something much more important than their bank balances for example the roof over their heads expected to be grateful for any advice at all whatever the quality? ;Rebekah Carrier, JC Gorringe and Co, Brixton, London. ; ; ;
