More than £25 million has now been refunded to the profession by the Solicitors Indemnity Fund (SIF), according to figures released last month.
In total, £25,069,165 was paid between October 2005 and September 2006, and a further £25,118,741 will be refunded before 30 September 2007, representing collections made to cover the SIF shortfall that in the event were not needed.
Law Society Deputy Vice President Paul Marsh said: 'The success of this repayment operation is largely due to the efficient work of staff at SIF.
'Almost all - 96% - of the gross refund due for the period October 2005 to September 2006 has been paid and 89% of firms have been paid back for that period.
'There are still some firms who haven't responded to communications from SIF to claim their refund and they should do so as soon as possible.'
