So step forward this week Lancashire firm Bannister Bates & Son, which has, according to a press release, 'been reflecting on its heritage' in the light of the Queen's jubilee.

And the Bannister Bates connection with this moment of Royalist fervour? That Frederick Bannister gained his first practising certificate seven years before the Golden Jubilee - of Queen Victoria in 1887.
