Surely more solicitors would agree with Michael Simmons' proposal for the restoration of the Solicitors Indemnity Fund (SIF) (see [2003] Gazette, 26 June, 14) than with Neil Jopson's comments (see [2003] Gazette, 3 July, 18).

However, if the SIF were to act in tandem with the market as proposed, there would need to be incentives or provisions so that any firms which opted to join the SIF and enjoy its benefits would have to stay in for several years and not be inclined to switch back to the market whenever it softened.
