searching for clues

With reference to Graham Ireland's recent letter (see [2000] Gazette, 7 September, 18), out of interest I conducted an environmental search against my own home - a 200-year-old plus property built on former agricultural land - based on information obtained from the Public Record Office.

Of the seven heads covered by the search ranging from subsidence to pollution risks, only the information given in respect of landfill and waste sites was correct.

In short, while the report contained caveats concerning professional advice it was effectively more harmful than useful.
