Magic circle firm Slaughter and May has increased its maintenance grant for future trainees to £10,000.

Students starting the law conversion course in London this September will receive £2,000 more than they did in the past. Students studying outside of London will also receive £10,000, up from £7,000.

In another positive announcement for future trainees, Slaughter and May has reported a high retention rate, taking on 37 of its 40 trainees (92.5%). Some 39 trainees put themselves forward, one was rejected and one did not accept the offer.

The figure is is up on last year’s 86% retention rate. 

A spokesperson for the firm said: ‘Our retention rate remains high and broadly in line with previous years. We remain extremely pleased with this continued strong showing.’
