All solicitors could be forced to undergo diversity training under proposals from the Law Society's equality and diversity committee, delegates heard.
As part of Chancery Lane's review of continuing professional development, the committee has recommended that all solicitors should receive two hours' equality and diversity training every two years. It says the training should be a compulsory part of the management training solicitors undertake in their first three years of practice.
Committee chairwoman Caroline Herbert said: 'Solicitors will be given training on the business benefits of diversity, and a stable working environment where each culture is celebrated and people are able to bring their unique skills to the workplace. They will also be taught about equality and diversity from a risk management point of view.'
The standards board will consider the plan before it goes to the Law Society Council.
