Society set to hike certificate fees to meet LSCC targets
The cost of a practising certificate could rise to more than £1,000 as the Law Society tackles the complaints-handling targets set by the Legal Services Complaints Commissioner (LSCC).
The council last month agreed to a cash requirement of £94.8 million for 2005, which could mean a PC fee of £1,006 when it is set in July. The requirement includes an extra £2.3 million to cover the targets set by LSCC Zahida Manzoor.
Acknowledging council members' concerns over the PC fee's affordability, treasurer Geoffrey Sandercock said the increased budget was a result of factors beyond the Law Society's control.
