Society weighs up value of forming Brussels committee

The Law Society Council will vote next week on whether to establish a specialist EU committee in Brussels.

The committee, if approved, would assist the Society in responding to EU law reform proposals and ensuring opportunities to provide input on key legislation were not missed.

More than 140 English and Welsh solicitors currently work in Brussels and around 30 English and Welsh firms have offices there.

June O'Keefe, head of the Society's Brussels office, said: 'There is a great deal of EU expertise in Brussels - with solicitors also acting as MEPs and holding positions at the European Commission - and we would hope to tap into that.'
