How dare the Law Society, to whom I am about to pay the sum of 1,614 for the privilege of practising, so brazenly, as it does on a full-page advertisement appearing in the Gazette, endorse mortgages offered by Scottish Widows Bank, an organisation that continues to discriminate against approximately 20% of all practices within the legal profession by not appointing sole practitioners to its lender's panel? Should I reduce my payment to reflect the potential loss of business as a result of this policy?
Peter Williams, past chairman of the Law Society's Sole Practitioners Group
