Solicitor's husband launches legal fight against hospital
The husband of a young solicitor is launching a clinical negligence suit against the Hong Kong hospital where she died two years ago.
Harinder Veriah, 33, who worked for City firm Lovells, died after suffering an epileptic seizure on Millennium eve in Hong Kong.
Husband Martin Jacques, a former editor of Marxism Today, claims she had inappropriate treatment in Ruttonjee Hospital and was not properly resuscitated after a second seizure.
The UK inquest is being held this week and Leigh Day & Co partner Frances Swaine, who is representing Mr Jacques, hopes for an open verdict.
'We are assembling evidence and testimony from expert witnesses for our clinical negligence suit this year,' she said.
A Hong Kong inquest concluded that she died from natural causes.
The Harinder Veriah Trust, set up in her memory, offers young Malaysian lawyers a chance of a two-year work placement at Lovells.
