Some lawyers are on the pitchA team of solicitors, clients and guests from Blackburn firm Farleys took to the hallowed turf of Wembley recently ahead of its impending demolition in a charity match against a team of ex-professionals, replete with recorded crowd noise, national anthem singing, partners in the Royal Box (supporters could sit anywhere) and a presumably lookalike Queen to hand out medals afterwards.
The Blackburn battlers went one down to a speculative 30-yard lob (barrister Mark Stuart having apparently given counsel's opinion to the goalkeeper that it would easily clear the bar - 'another fee note unlikely to be paid', the firm said later) only for Jonathan Taylor to equalise.
Assistant solicitor Matt Finley nearly capped a fine performance with a winner in the last minute, only to see his delicate glancing header from four yards out sail off towards the corner flag.
'All 18 of us can bore our children rigid with the story of the day we played at Wembley,' said assistant Jonathan Bridge afterwards.
