Fewer than a quarter of the 100 heads of state written to in recent months by IBA president Francis Neate have responded to his call for them to endorse a resolution on the rule of law. The City solicitor said that while none had refused to endorse the resolution, passed by the IBA's ruling council last year, none backed the resolution in its exact terms. The Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer, was among those to respond despite a considerable delay in doing so (see (2006) Gazette, 8 June, 8). Mr Neate said he had received a satisfactory response from the UK.
