Hundreds of England and Wales lawyers based in the corporate law capital of the Middle East are among those heeding advice to remain at home as Iranian drone and missile strikes continue across the Gulf region. UK nationals in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have been advised to register their presence with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) as the UK government considers evacuation plans.
The UAE, home to the major Gulf legal centres of Dubai and Abu Dhabi, has reported three deaths from the attacks, made in response to the killing of Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei early on Saturday. Airports in the region remain closed. The FCDO advises Britons: 'Remain indoors in a secure location, avoid all travel and follow instructions from the local authorities.'

In an 'update on regional uncertainties' the Dubai International Financial Centre, the local base of numerous firms including Addleshaw Goddard, A&O Shearman, Linklaters, HSF and Norton Rose said: 'We kindly request that all members of the DIFC community follow the official guidance issued by Dubai and UAE Government.
'At present, the guidance advises individuals to remain indoors where possible and to stay away from windows, doors, and open areas. Expatriate community members are also encouraged to consult guidance issued by their respective home country authorities, including any relevant travel advisories.
'Individuals who ordinarily work within the DIFC District should continue to follow the business continuity and operational arrangements put in place by their respective employers. Where possible, clients are advised to enable remote working arrangements for their employees.’
Robin Hickman, head of Middle East at Addleshaw Goddard, said: 'Our thoughts are with everyone affected by current events in the region. For Addleshaw Goddard, the safety and wellbeing of our people and their families is our top priority. We are in regular contact with colleagues across the Middle East and providing them with support and guidance. We have robust business contingency arrangements in place and will continue to monitor the situation closely.'
