Tesco has entered the UK property market with the launch of a new one-stop online property service, and linked up with e-conveyancing specialist My Home Move.
The service, tescopropertymarket.com, will provide consumers with advice and information about the buying and selling process, and enable buyers to search for a new home from the properties listed by other online property portals. Sellers will also be able to advertise and manage their own property sale.
Paul Marsh, Law Society Deputy Vice-President, said: 'When someone with Tesco's marketing power and reputation moves into a new market, anyone in that market place needs to take the threat seriously.'
That threat, for solicitors, he said, was the flow of the finite quantity of conveyancing work being channelled into fewer hands. Mr Marsh added it was essential that solicitors understood their clients' need for a more interactive type of service and marketed themselves as the best providers of conveyancing services.
