Since qualifying in 2007, I have had the opportunity of working with some of the most enthusiastic and talented people I have ever met, and what is more, we have something in common – we achieve results for our clients. Whether it is advising a bereaved child on administering their parent’s estate, assisting in the purchase of a new house or attending a police station in the darkest hours of the night, our clients (for the most part) appreciate what we do.
As I see it, the years of financial hardship and study have been worth it. I am now able to have a career that interests me, that I enjoy, and that makes a difference to my clients. To me, that is the ‘point’ of being a solicitor.

‘Can someone tell me what is the point of being a solicitor?’ asks Trevor F Moore. I remember a young articled clerk (that is what they were called in those days) many years ago sitting at his principal’s feet, lost in wonder and amazement at his principal’s wisdom and knowledge. To every question he asked, the principal had an answer and it always seemed to be the right one. He was so impressed that he went on and qualified, and set up his own practice. That articled clerk was Trevor F Moore and his principal was me. The trouble was that he never asked me what was the purpose or benefit of being a solicitor.
