I read with some surprise how people are still saying the same things about HIPs. Yes, of course we've all said 'HIPs were a reasonable idea, poorly implemented and rushed through by the government'.
However, I think some people need to wake up and smell the coffee.
Granted, the government needs to look at certain return times in some areas, but moaning about the length of time of the drainage return will do you no good. Why not either look at ways of speeding it up, or explain to the client that the extra time is to ensure the HIP is being professionally created?
I feel that some Gazette correspondents on this issue reflect 'old school' legal opinions. Markets change, people change, and sadly for the 'old school', the legal profession is changing at a rapid rate. Remember when Tesco used to only sell food items?
Call me young and naive, but this debate should be about how to provide better services to clients, not rueing what might have been.
