Top-50 law firms have successfully grown their revenues in the first half of the financial year, figures released by firms this week suggest.

Among City firms, Norton Rose posted a 9% rise in fee income for the six months ending 31 October, indicating fee income of £155m, up from £142m over the same period last year.

Nabarro reported revenues up by 3% to £54m for the six months ending 31 October. Barlow Lyde & Gilbert, which earlier this year acquired the insurance practice of collapsed north-west firm Halliwells, reported half-year revenues of £45m, up 17% from last year.

Among national firms, DLA Piper reported a 9% rise in turnover for its non-US operations compared with the same period last year, to £280m. DWF posted a 12% rise in turnover to £36m for the six months ending 31 October, compared with £32m over the same period last year.

In Birmingham, Wragge & Co reported a 15% rise in turnover, indicating turnover of £55m for the six months ending 31 October.

The only firm to report negative growth in the results published so far was City firm Olswang, where half-year fee income fell by 2% to just over £42m, from £43m last year.

On Monday, magic circle firm Allen & Overy reported a 3% rise in turnover to £526m for the six months ending 31 October, up from £511m over the same period last year.
