You quote incoming Law Society Deputy Vice-President Paul Marsh in relation to home information packs (HIPs) as saying: 'None of us should have any illusion that the government wants to impose them' (see (2006) Gazette, 20 July, 8).
Presumably, he actually said it before the major climbdown earlier in the week on home condition reports - and the simultaneous press speculation that there will be a further climbdown in due course with an announcement that HIPs will only have to be produced to buyers who actually agree a sale (subject to contract).
We need more than ever opposition pressure from the Law Society at this point - not collaboration.
