Vacancy for non-council member of the council membership committee

Applications are invited for one further place on the Law Society Council membership committee, in addition to those advertised in [2002] Gazette, 7 November, 44.

The council membership committee advises the council on the designation of non-constituency council seats whenever a vacancy arises in such a seat, keeps the constituency boundaries for council elections under review and advises generally on the size and representative nature of the council.

The majority of the members are not council members, and it is made up of a geographical component and a non-geographical component consisting of representatives from a range of interest groups and categories of solicitors.

The place on the committee which needs to be filled is for a member from the Young Solicitors Group (YSG).

Any member of the Law Society who is a member of the YSG is eligible to be appointed.

The time commitment involved is of the order of three or four all-day meetings a year, but it is not possible to be more precise than this.

The Law Society wishes to encourage applications from all eligible solicitors irrespective of gender, race, colour, age, sexual orientation or disability and appointments will be based on merit, following an open and clear selection process.
