City firm Watson Farley & Williams is in merger talks with US giant Chadbourne & Parke to create a £183 million-turnover practice, it has emerged.


Watson Farley has more than 200 lawyers based across offices in London, New York, Paris, Rome, Piraeus, Hamburg, Singapore and Bangkok. It posted turnover of £54 million for the 2006/07 financial year.



With revenues of $254 million (£129 million), Chadbourne & Parke is ranked 97th in American Lawyer magazine's most recent Amlaw 100 guide to the top US firms. It has more than 400 lawyers in 13 offices, with a 40-strong presence in the City, and is particularly well-known for its projects and energy work.



A spokesman for Watson Farley confirmed that talks are continuing. 'We are at a very early stage in talking to Chadbourne & Parke, and it is quite a way off being a done deal,' he added.
