Word games ; ;Lawyers have been offered a unique opportunity to demonstrate their renowned ability with the English language (after all, who else uses words like hereintobefore?) to the wider world. ;For the first time, the Oxford English Dictionary is appealing to a particular profession lawyers for help with defining legal words and uncovering new words as part of the OEDs first ever revision. For example, asks chief editor John Simpson, is the original 1631 definition of non assumpsit (a plea in an action of assumpsit by which the defendant denies that he made any undertaking or promise) still valid? Is it now ;historical; should it allow for the existence of both sexes? The most useful contribution will win a free subscription to the new OED on-line service.
